Obviously this is a hockey site, but even the greatest lover of hockey strays from the ice to support other sports. Football is a happy substitute for Sunday afternoons when the NHL is frequently not playing a game near you.

Honestly, if you’re a female chances are pretty good that at some point in your life you’ve had a “Flashdance” moment. It’s the weekend, whether it’s spent in a locker room or the local bar, be a maniac even if it’s only for a few seconds.

On this week’s edition of “Hockey Term of the Week” we are going to cover the terms Five Hole, Deke and Icing.

So let’s get started:

Five Hole:  The area on a goalie referred to as the “five hole” can be simplified to the space between his legs.  This area is called the “five hole” because it is often thought there are five holes on which you can score on the goalie. The stick side low, stick side high, glove side low, glove side high and finally the fifth hole between the goalies legs.  Now that you know what the five hole is you too can get in on hockey puns and innuendos.
Deke:  Sometimes referred to as a Fake Out. A “deke” is when the skater carrying the puck intentionally deceives the defender, goalie or other skaters on the opposing team as to what his or her next move will be often to get it past that skater.
Icing: When a player shoots the puck to the other end of the ice from behind the center ice red line. If the puck crosses the opposing teams’ goal line untouched by an opposing player other than the goaltender icing is called.  If the linesman believes that a player on the opposing team could have played the puck before it passed the goal line, but does not get the chance to do so icing can be waived off and the play continues. This however is at the discretion of the officials. Icing is often considered a delaying tactic; it results in a stoppage in play and a face off in the offending team’s defensive zone.

The NHL All Star Weekend has come and gone. But the photographic evidence of the weekend, players and the beautiful host city of Ottawa, Ontario is here to stay! Check out the gallery from all over Ottawa, media day, skills competition and the game itself. With a beautiful backdrop of Ottawa it’ll be interesting to see how the next host city pulls off the games. 2013 NHL All Star Weekend will be in Columbus, Ohio; home to the Columbus Blue Jackets.

A week later and it’s safe to say that some of you might be going through NHL All Star withdrawals. Even though the season is back underway and all of your favorite players have been dispersed back throughout North America you may just want to relive some video from the weekend that brought all your NHL favorites together. It’s a nice way to bring you into the weekend. Happy Friday!

After something of a controversial week for the Boston Bruins, I decided that their fans might want to forget about outspoken goaltenders and focus on something a little light hearted. I went a little more rocker or bike chic if you will with this. I pulled in a lot tougher or hard looking elements for this look; I think it truly reflects the kind of team the Big Bad Bruins are. As usual if you do not have these exact things you can always swap them out for similar things you own. This look is merely a guideline mix’n’match, spice it up and make it your own. Also like always if you love this look and aren’t a Bruins fan just change the colour scheme and shirt then voila. Go Bruins !!

It’s the most wonderful time of the year, hockey season. Whether you’re a player, fan or hockey mom; chances are good that most of your time during the winter months is spent in a rink. From the rink to the harsh weather outside, to a warm car, back into a rink and then a sweaty locker room. The opportunity to catch that itchy sore throat is multiplied during hockey season, we’ve all dealt with it. Here’s a little gem that is sure to help aid any rink woes that you may face in the health department. Player, fan, adult, child and hockey mom approved!

This past weekend Ottawa was ablaze with past and present NHL stars for the 2012 NHL All Star Weekend. However it wasn’t just the players who took in the weekends festivities. Canadian TV stars such George Strombolopolous, Allan Hawco and Gerry Dee among others enjoyed NHL events throughout the city.

This week our focus is the Minnesota Wild. This season fur is in fashion and with that being said, I decided to go with a faux fur. Not only is it humane but it’s also easier on your pocket. When I think fur, I think animals and the wild. So why not combine it with the Minnesota Wild. I went with a hippie earthy almost boho look for this one yet still fashionable, modern and supporting your favourite hockey team.

Just like with any of these looks if you don’t own these exact things you can swap them out for anything you’d like. Also keep in mind these things aren’t limited to wild fans, only mix and match to your team colours. Have fun with it and Go Wild.

Go Wild with this team look of the week...

With the 2012 NHL All Stars just over a week away, its safe to say that many of you will be watching the NHL elite take the ice. Having the chance to showcase the skills that have brought them this far in their careers. But it’s not only men that have spent years honing their skills and showing off some tricks on the ice. Here is video of some of the best females in the world putting their puck handling on display for all to see during the women’s qualifying round for ice hockey skills in Innsbruck, Austria:
