Toronto dropped their last game of the season 4-1 at the Bell Centre in Montreal on Saturday. Dion Phaneuf scored the lone goal for the Maple Leafs who finish with a disappointing 35-37-10 record. Toronto ends the dive situated just two points ahead of the Northeast Division last place Habs. It is the first time since 2006-2007 that the Canadiens will miss post season play. The lack luster match up finale was probably not what schedulers had in mind posting this late season game. Instead of the excitement of two predicted playoff bound teams battling it out, both Toronto and Montreal have the Draft Lottery basement to look forward to on Tuesday. But, there’s always the Blue Jays home opener… and golf.

It’s the most wonderful time of the year! And as you count down how many sleeps until the Cup why not make things interesting? That’s right puckers; joining a fantasy playoff pool will keep you in the action even if your team is not. Draft pools can be a little intimidating for first timers so here are a few guidelines that are sure to equal bragging rights come May.

1. Unlike regular season pools, look for teams with playoff longevity. Fantasy players should make round to round predictions to maximize points. The key is to decide which teams will last the longest.

2. Never pick players from teams that will face each other in the first round. Inevitably you will lose players from the failing team resulting in a disappointing point total.

3. Try to prognosticate. Choose winning teams for each round and pick players reflecting your predictions. Stock up on guys you think will meet in the Stanley Cup final. If your foresight is in check, these players will play the most games and skyrocket your tally.

4. It also helps to pick a “sleeper”. This player is a dark horse but an unexpected performance surge will give you an edge on your competition.

Good luck Pink Puckers! Let’s rule the pools.

The terms of the week for this week are rebound, garbage goal and own goal. All of these terms have to do with goals and saves.

Rebound:  A rebound is a puck that is still in play after the goaltender has made a save.

Garbage Goal: A garbage goal is a goal that is scored a few feet away from the net. Garbage goals are often thought to be scored by players who wait around the crease for a rebound or loose puck.  Garbage goals earn their name because a player does not have to make a strategic nor fancy play he is just picking up the garbage.

Own Goal:  An own goal is exactly what it sounds like, a goal scored on the players own net.

Possibly the saddest game of the season for any hockey fan is the last game of the regular season. If your team made the playoffs, than you still have some games to hope for; in the event that they didn’t… well you can start the countdown clock to October now.
The majority of the NHL wraps up the regular season today and some teams will look forward to the small reprieve before looking for glory during the Stanley Cup playoffs kicking off April 11th.

Toronto closed out their home season with an OT victory over Tampa Bay Thursday night. Captain Dion Phaneuf scored the overtime game winner, his 11th of the season, to take the Lightning 3-2. Tampa Bay’s Steve Stamkos edged one goal closer to his milestone, scoring number 59 surrounded by his hometown crowd. Stamkos will become the first player since Alex Ovechkin in 2007-08 to complete this feat. Toronto goalie, Ben Scivens, made 35 saves in the win and will return to the Marlies next week for their playoff run. The Leafs face Montreal Saturday for their final game of the season.

This team look of the week has brought us to San Jose.  This look is a lot more feminine than past looks. The look proves that even though you are supporting your favourite team you can still look cute and feminine.  The light A-line skirt and jewelery add the majority of the femininity to this look. However the t-shirt allows this look to be feminine without being too stuffy. A look like this will never go out of style and you are in team colours from head to toe.

As usual if you do not have these exact things you can always swap them out for similar things you own. This look is merely a guideline, mix’n’match, spice it up and make it your own. Also like always if you love this look and aren’t a Sharks fan just change the colour scheme and shirt then voila.

San Jose Sharks Look

The division title has been clinched, the regular season is almost over and the Bruins are ready to take on the league for another run at hockey’s holy grail. Now is the time for regulars to rest and new faces to fill in the spaces.

With his family in attendance, one new face in particular made his NHL debut on Tuesday night. Torey Krug took to the ice when the Pittsburgh Penguins slid into town. Signed to an entry level contract on March 25th, Krug is the newest D-man for Boston. The 2012 Hobey Baker Award finalist had a lot of emotions powering his game, but he was just thankful for the opportunity.
