The race heated up last night with two teams avoiding elimination and a third tying their series. This is Wednesday’s story…

Penguins thump Flyers
Looking like Pittsburgh of old, the Penguins thwarted elimination beating Philly 10-3. Jordan Stall recorded his first career postseason hat trick while Sidney Crosby added to the tally with a goal and two assists. Game 5 will be played in Pittsburgh on Friday where the Pens will continue their uphill battle.

Ottawa over NY
Senators came back from a 2-0 deficit in the first period to take the Rangers 3-2 in overtime. With the win at home, Ottawa ties the series at two apiece. The battle resumes Saturday in New York.

Vancouver stays afloat
With both the Sedins back and Cory Schneider in net, a recharged Vancouver fought back taking game four from LA 3-1. Schneider, in his second straight start, earned first star with 43 saves. The Canucks travel home for a critical Game 5 on Sunday.

Round one battles raged on this Tuesday. Here’s what went down…

Florida wins again
Panthers clawed back from a three goal deficit to take New Jersey 4-3 at the Prudential Center. The Devils pulled veteran Martin Brodeur after giving up three goals on 12 shots in less than 25 minutes of play time. Florida now leads the series 2-1 and play again in Newark on Thursday.

Preds paw Wings
With rare at home losses, Detroit now finds themselves down three to one in the series. Pekka Rinne made 40 saves for the Predators in the 3-1 victory. The teams head to Nashville on Friday.

Coyotes take OT win
This back and forth battle went to Phoenix who took Chicago 3-2 in overtime. A brutal first period hit on Blackhawks Marian Hossa marred the game. Hossa exited via stretcher after Raffi Torres targeted his head with a late hit. Coyotes lead the series 2-1 and resume their quest Thursday in Chicago.

The Boston Bruins practiced at Kettler IcePlex in Washington D.C. today in preparation for tomorrow night’s Game 4 contest against the Capitals. The Capitals will look to even the score as the Bruins lead the series 2-1.

Three games were played and three series are now two games to one. Here are your recaps:

Rangers over Ottawa
Henrik Lundqvist stopped 39 shots in Ottawa to lift the Rangers to a 1-0 victory. It is Lundqvist’s fourth playoff shutout. New York’s Brian Boyle scored the only goal of the game in the third period. Rangers lead the series 2-1 and game four is set for Wednesday in Ottawa.

Boston takes Caps
Zdeno Chara scored late in the third for Boston to earn the Bruins a 4-3 win over the Capitals. The next match-up is Thursday in Washington. The Bruins lead the series 2-1.

Sharks are Blue
St. Louis takes the lead in this best of seven with a 4-3 win over San Jose at the HP Pavilion. Brian Elliott was in for Jaroslav Halak who is still out after his collision with a teammate on the weekend. Elliott made 26 saves for the win. The teams meet again Thursday in San Jose.

Oscar Dansk is a name you may or may not be familiar with. Playing the last two seasons with Brynas Junior team in Sweden, Dansk is a name that’s slated to be called out in the first round of this year’s NHL entry draft being held in Pittsburgh, at the end of June. An unforgettable experience for many a player, the draft is an important day in any hockey career.

“I’m really excited, I want to go there and go as high as possible,” commented Dansk. “I don’t know what to expect, but ultimately I want to go there and enjoy it.”

Yesterday was definitely not a day of rest in the NHL. Somewhere between the brawls and cheap shots hockey was played; two teams are now threatening a sweep while goalies are standing on their heads. Here’s Sunday in review:

Nashville takes the lead
With 41 saves, Pekka Rinne held off Detroit and lifted Nashville to a 3-2 victory. All three games of this Western Conference match-up have shared the same score. The Preds took game three in Detroit and now lead the series two to one. The teams meet again on Thursday.

Broad Street beats Pens
No, it wasn’t HBO’s Spartacus. It was Philly/Pittsburgh’s blood-bath game three. After the gloves cleared, Flyer’s came out on-top 8-4. Philadelphia takes a commanding 3-0 series lead on the unglued Penguins. Flyers will look to complete the sweep over the heavily favoured Pens on Wednesday in Philly.

Florida wins at home
For the first time in 15 years, the Panthers won a playoff game and tie the series with New Jersey at ones. Florida’s last postseason victory came in 1997 over the Rangers. The Panther’s 4-2 win take them back to New Jersey for game 3 on Tuesday.

LA up 3 games
Jonathan Quick just can’t be beat. With 41 saves and his second career postseason shutout, Quick helped the Kings’ over Vancouver 1-0. Even a goalie change from Roberto Luongo to Cory Schneider couldn’t help the tumbling Canucks who just can’t get goals past LA. The Presidents’ Trophy winners are on the verge of being eliminated Wednesday night.
