New Jersey in OT
Ilya Kovalchuk came back with a vengeance for the Devils, who took Philly 4-3 in overtime. Kovalchuk tallied a goal and two assists after sitting out Game 2 with a lower body injury. Alexei Ponikarovsky beat Iyla Bryzgalov on his own rebound to score the game winner with under three minutes left in OT. The Devils now have the 2-1 series advantage and play again Sunday at home.
LA’s up
Eighth seed LA just won’t quit, taking Game 3 from St. Louis 4-2. Jonathan Quick stopped 18 shots for the Kings while, with no other feasible option, the Blues stuck with Brian Elliot who gave up all four goals on 22 shots. The Kings can seal the deal and sweep the series in Los Angeles, playing Game 4 on Sunday afternoon.
When I came to Finland last year and found out that the 2012 IIHF World Championships would be held here, one could imagine my excitement. My goal was simple: Go to the bronze and gold medal games, as well as the games of countries with Red Wings players on their teams, if the Wings weren’t in the playoffs anymore.
The day single game tickets went on sale, I went online, Discover card in hand, to place my order. Moments later, my heart stopped.
NY in 3OT
It was the longest playoff game thus far and in the end Marian Gaborik emerged the hero for New York. With 5:19 left in the third overtime, Gaborik shot one past Caps net-minder Braden Holtby to end the marathon victorious 2-1. Both goalies had a workout; Rangers’ Henrik Lundqvist made 45 saves while Holtby turned away 47. New York now leads the series 2-1. The teams have a well-deserved rest period before heading to Washington for Game 4 on Saturday afternoon.
Predators win despite suspensions
Pekka Rinne recorded his first career playoff shutout in Music City’s 2-0 win over Phoenix on Wednesday. The Predators have dropped the first two of the series and this crucial Game 3 victory came without forwards Alexander Radulov and Andrei Kostitsyn, who were both suspended for violating team curfew rules. Game 4 is Friday night in Nashville.
For some, you’ve known how to lace your skates long before you could tie your shoes. For others, lacing, tightening or even putting on a skate is a daunting thought. Passion is often lumped with desire and if you’re passionate about something the time may come when you have the desire to try it.
The moment you decide to cross the blue line is a beautiful thing.
Once you’ve made the decision to play, it can be both exciting and terrifying. Don’t let the fearful thoughts take center ice, give them a good slash and place them in the penalty box.
Being a fan of the game is half the battle, the other half is finally getting on the ice.

A team effort equaled victory for New Jersey on Tuesday night. With their big scorer Ilya Kovalchuk out with a lower body injury, four different players stepped up to score in the Devil’s 4-1 win over Philly with eight players recording a point. Ilya Bryzgalov played well for the Flyers in the loss who were outshot 12-2 in the second. NJD dominated the third grabbing all four goals in the final period. New Jersey heads home for Game 3 with the series tied.
Capitals edge out New York
Braden Holtby made 26 saves in this 3-2 Washington win over the Rangers. Alexander Ovechkin, who has seen less ice-time this series, scored the game winning power-play goal in the third. The teams head to Washington for Game 3 on Wednesday.
LA triumphs

Flyers in OT
Danny Briere scored the overtime game winner Sunday afternoon in Philly to thrust the Flyers ahead of New Jersey 4-3. It was Briere’s second goal of the night. Philly now leads the series one game to none and will attempt to extend their lead to two on Tuesday at home.
Phoenix in Game 2

The look of this week is for a team that will forever be considered an underdog. Although the St.Louis Blues finished second overall in the Western conference, they are still considered to be one of the underdogs in the playoffs this year. This look is casual without looking sloppy and comfortable without being sweatpants. This look shows that not only can you be causally presentable, but you can support your favourite hockey team whilst doing so. The jeans, cardigan and scarf all give this look its air of casual. However the tank top with the white lace bandeau pops this look up just a little. If you are uncomfortable with a plunging neckline, a cute lace camisole underneath instead of the bandeau is always an option.
As usual if you do not have these exact things you can always swap them out for similar things you own. This look is merely a guideline, mix’n’match, spice it up and make it your own. As always, if you love this look and aren’t a Blues fan just change the colour scheme, scarf and pins then voila.
The Semifinals are underway! Here’s the beginning of the hockey weekend:
Phoenix takes the Preds
In another overtime battle, Phoenix edged out Nashville 4-3 Friday in Game 1 of this Western Conference semifinal. Mike Smith made 39 saves in the victory for the Coyotes who are looking to advance to the conference finals for the first time in franchise history. Game 2 is Sunday night in Phoenix.
Rangers over Caps
New York came out on top 3-1 Saturday in their first game of the Eastern Conference semifinal against Washington. Henrik Lundqvist made 17 saves for the Rangers while Chris Keider earned first star with a goal and an assist. Game 2 stays in New York on Monday.
Quick won’t quit
Jonathan Quick made 28 saves to launch his team to a 3-1 victory over St. Louis on Saturday. LA’s Vezina Trophy candidate stopped eight shots in the third to hold his team’s one goal lead. Game 2 takes place in St. Louis on Monday.
