While The Men Watch has become a pretty hot topic issue over the last few days. With CBC announcing “While The Men Watch Hockey Night” and it’s Stanley Cup Final coverage, it sheds an unflattering light on women in hockey. After reading and watching a few highlights, both the show and concept left a stench worse than a hockey locker room.
It essentially goes against the original thought process here at The Pink Puck and what we try to promote, women who love hockey. While the Men Watch puts two women on a national stage to discuss the blatantly obvious; they know absolutely nothing about hockey. The fact that this show is on the air is a travesty. CBC should be promoting a show with women who know the sport. Canada and the US have some of the best female hockey players in the world, a show hosted by knowledgeable females may have been a better option. Hockey women that could reach out to broaden their audience and demographic; instead of shutting out a large portion of it.
The New Jersey Devils triumphed in a rematch 18 years in the making. The Rangers fell to NJD 3-2 in overtime ending their chance at the cup. With no Messier to make promises of victory, New Jersey took the Blueshirts in 6, finishing off the top seed. Martin Broduer, the only player left from the ’94 series, made 32 saves in the win. The Devils make their fifth trip to Stanley hosting LA for Game 1 on Wednesday.
The Boston Bruins have acquired forward Chris Bourque from the Washington Capitals in exchange for Zach Hamill. Bourque is the son of Bruins Hall of Famer Ray Bourque.
New Jersey gave up a three goal first period lead but still emerged victorious taking Game 5 from the Blueshirts 5-3. Ryan Carter scored the tie breaking goal for the Devils late in the third and Zach Parise added the empty-netter; New Jersey now has the series advantage. The Devils are one win away from meeting LA in the Cup and host New York for Game 6 on Friday.
The weather outside is delightful and summer fashion is in full bloom. Perhaps you’re going through off season depression, don’t fret. This weeks look brings the love of hockey to the pool, beach, golf course, ice cream store, etc, etc.
Jean shorts are a summer staple, but straying from the regular blue isn’t a penalty, why not mix it up. Comfy vintage T-Shirts are an easy look to take just about anywhere during the summer, not only do they look cool but they keep you cool too. Wear a team T-Shirt that you already have or hit up thrift stores or Etsy to find a vintage one from current and past NHL teams. The Nordiques have a great color scheme as do the NorthStars, the perfect mix of bright summer colors and hockey.
You can even add a little early Movember support in the summer months with a cute and functional tote bag. A straw fedora gives the look a little summer flare and keeps your face protected. As always, this look is just a guideline, get creative and mix and match pieces from your hockey season wardrobe. Just because your team is shutout of the playoffs, doesn’t mean your apparel has to be!

The Boston Bruins have earned the Sports Team of the Year Award for their excellence and outstanding achievements for the time period from March 1, 2011 through February 29, 2012.
“Each year, the award honors one sports franchise based on an evaluation
of excellence, growth, creativity, innovation, sound planning,
implementation and outcomes”.
LA won their eighth straight battle away from home, taking Phoenix 4-3 in overtime and, with the win, the Kings are now headed to the Cup! Dustin Penner slid one past Mike Smith with 2:18 left in OT to clinch the Western Conference finals in five games. Smith stopped 47 shots for the Coyotes in the loss. The Kings’ journey to the cup included knocking off the West’s top three seeds; amazingly LA accomplished all this in just 14 games. They join the 2006 Edmonton Oilers as the only No.8 team to make it to Stanley. LA now awaits their next rival – New York or New Jersey. Kings will play visitor Game 1 on Wednesday.
With 27 saves and an assist Martin Brodeur lead the Devils to a 4-1 Game 4 victory over the Rangers. Appearing ageless, the 40-year-old Broduer held the shutout late into the third period before letting Ruslan Fedotenko scoot the puck by. Zach Parise recorded three points for New Jersey scoring early in the third and adding an additional empty netter (assisted by Broduer). The Devils now tie the series at 2 apiece with Game 5 Wednesday at Madison Square Garden.
Thanks to Mike Smith’s 36 saves and Shane Doan’s two goal game, the Coyotes can bay at the Arizona moon on Tuesday for Game 5. Smith recorded his third career shutout in the 2-0 victory narrowly escaping elimination. Maybe the solar eclipse or the bustle around the Staples Center raddled Kings’ near-perfect goalie Jonathan Quick who let in two on 21 shots. Sunday afternoon’s defeat was only the second loss in 13 games for 8th seeded LA.
Hi, my name is Winter and I’m a smoothie-aholic. Drinking home made smoothies before heading to the rink is a must, since the smoothie isn’t too heavy, I don’t feel sick when I take the ice. But sometimes you’re working out and want to have a meal or snack that doesn’t come in liquid form, but still packs the protein powder punch! Here are a few quick and easy recipes that use protein powder. http://www.livestrong.com/slideshow/556857-20-delicious-protein-powder-recipes-that-are-not-shakes/?utm_source=articlebottom&utm_medium=1#slide-1
