With another road OT win, the Kings are now two away from hoisting the Cup. LA’s Jeff Carter fired one past Martin Brodeur with 6:18 left in overtime to take Game 2 over New Jersey 2-1. Jonathan Quick made 32 saves in the King’s tenth straight victory away from Staples Center. Drew Doughty scored a highlight worthy first goal for the Kings skating coast to coast and beating Brodeur blocker side. LA will try to take a commanding 3-0 lead Monday at home.

My name is Rochelle and I love hockey, I also love writing. Writing about hockey, is my true passion. My love of hockey and hockey players in uniforms, started when my dad got season tickets to the Toronto Maple Leafs in the late 70’s. That was in the days of Lanny McDonald, Darryl Sitler and Roger Nelson.

The league was smaller then. It seemed that if you didn’t have cold weather, or if your part of the country didn’t have snow, you didn’t have a hockey team. Times do change.

When hockey season is in the off-season and it’s getting to be pretty close… a movie that’s worth the rental is Goon.

It has the hockey chirps, blood and laughs that everyone enjoys. It’s a good movie to grab a beer, pizza and watch some hockey. Warning: It’s not family friendly, so if you’ve got young hockey fans– stick to the Mighty Ducks.

Tis’ the season for trades, signings, retirements and self benching?

A quick NHL recap:
Bruins sign Daniel Paille to a 3 year, 1.3 million annually contract, that puts Paille in the black and yellow through the 2014-15 season.
Bruins also signed Chris Bourque son of legend Ray Bourque to a two-year deal. Bourque’s contract is two-way for the 2012-13 season worth $550,000 NHL, $200,000 AHL; in the second year of the contract (2013-14) it will be one-way $550,000
Bruins will also say a temporary goodbye to goaltender Tim Thomas, as he’s elected to sit out the 2012-13 season. Thomas is looking to focus of friends, family and faith.

Red Wings Nicklas Lidstrom retires. Gary Bettman, Commissioner of the National Hockey League, “Nick Lidstrom’s trademarks were his respect for hockey, his humanity and his commitment to his craft — as well as his devotion to the highest standards of success. For so many seasons, Nick gave the very best to his team, his city and his League; as he moves on to the next stage of his life, we wish the very same for him and his family.”

Penguins acquire Tomas Vokoun (G) from the Capitals for a 2012 seventh-round draft pick.

Tim Thomas

The speculation has been circulating over the last few days regarding Tim Thomas as his future as an NHL goaltender. The Bruins organization practically confirmed his impending absence for the upcoming season, and as of today Thomas has done the same. Posting the following on his Facebook page:

“From the earliest age I can remember, I’ve wanted to be a hockey player. I’ve been blessed in my life to not only be able to live that dream, but to achieve more than I ever thought possible.

It seems the Kings are unstoppable away from home beating New Jersey 2-1 in overtime and taking Game 1 of the Cup finals. With Wednesday’s win, LA improves to 9-0 away from Staples Center this postseason; the nine consecutive road wins are the most in a single playoff year in NHL history. Anze Kopitar’s fancy stick work beat Martin Brodeur 8:13 into OT sealing LA’s victory. Jonathan Quick posted 16 saves for the Kings while Devils’ Brodeur turned away 23 shots. The Kings will try to keep the streak alive on Saturday for Game 2.

Picking a team to cheer for when your team isn’t in the Stanley Cup Final can sometimes be difficult. Every hockey fan has her reasons for donning one jersey over another. While I have nothing against the New Jersey Devils, I’m hoping to see the Kings raise Lord Stanley in the next few weeks. The current throne holder for the Kings, and a huge reason that they’re just 3 wins away from every players dream, Jonathan Quick.

In honor of making it to the Stanley Cup final the look of the week goes to the New Jersey Devils. Have you ever had to take your look from the office to the game? Or maybe you have an event after a game? This look is perfect for that. I decided to give this look some edge since this seems to be a trend that is sticking around. Function and fashion is what this look is all about. The colour scheme, lapel pins and scarf allow you to show support. You can support the Devils from head to toe, without being Devils from head to toe

As usual if you do not have these exact things you can always swap them out for similar things you own. This look is merely a guideline, mix’n’match, spice it up and make it your own. If you love this look and aren’t a Devils fan just change the colour scheme, scarf and pins then voila.

Devils Look

When the temperature reaches record highs, NHL Network is on a re-run marathon and the calendar is still months away from opening night, the world for a hockey fan can seem pretty bleak. Just because it’s the off-season, doesn’t mean you can’t cheer for another sport.

Lacrosse.

With a seemingly endless amount of teams, the sport comes in two varieties, box and field. With many similarities to hockey, it’s an easy choice to win your summer affection. With different levels of pro teams across North America, it’s a fun and inexpensive way to enjoy a day.
