Boston Bruins young star Tyler Seguin will hit the ice in Switzerland during the NHL lockout, tweeting: “Looks like I’m wearing number 9 for EHC Biel in Switzerland till the lockouts done. Excited to play next week. #illmissthebruinsfans” (@tylerseguin92).
Other NHL big names that will enjoy the Switzerland sites, San Jose Sharks Joe Thornton, who played in Switzerland during the 04′ lockout. New York Ranger, Rick Nash will skate alongside Thornton in Switzerland.
It’s been one big name player after another jetting to Europe in an attempt to keep playing while the NHL continues to depress fans that reside on North American soil.
Fans looking for a hockey fix, don’t fret AHL pre-season and camps are about to pickup within the next two weeks. Including, Boston’s AHL affiliate Providence Bruins. Providence will play a pre-season game at the New England Sports Center on Wednesday, October 3rd against the Springfield Falcons (Columbus Blue Jackets).
While the NHL is locked out, it isn’t the players or the owners suffering financially (well, it is, but under entirely different circumstances.) With millions in the bank, a few months or a season without a paycheck is just a divet in the ice of life. a
A sad but inevitable truth, layoffs were going to happen. The Florida Panthers announced yesterday that among a few employees being let go under the circumstances, none other than Stanley C. Panther the team’s mascot. Stanley has been with the organization from the beginning in 1993. More teams are bound to follow in Florida’s strides to some extent in the coming weeks.
Many mascots are beloved by fans of all ages and bring a special element to an organization. Hopefully none of Stanley C. Panthers co-workers will be receiving a pink slip.
The drunk looks around, but sees no one. He starts sawing again. Once more, the voice speaks, “As I said before, there are no fish under the ice.”
The drunk looks all around, high and low, but can’t see a single soul. He picks up the saw and tries one more time to finish.
Before he can even start cutting, the huge voice interrupts. “I have warned you three times now. There are no fish!”
The drunk is now flustered and somewhat scared, so he asks the voice, “How do you know there are no fish? Are you God trying to warn me?”
“No”, the voice replied. “I am the manager of this hockey rink.”
Quite possibly the most discussed topic throughout sports at any level, concussions. Head injuries have been a heated debate for years, athletes suffering head injuries and the long term effects that result. Although leagues take preventative measures, often it isn’t enough. The new sports documentary “Head Games”, takes an in depth look at head injuries in sports.

Another day, another heart wrenching NHL press release via nhl.com:
“NEW YORK – The National Hockey League announced today the cancellation of the 2012 preseason schedule through Sept. 30. In addition, the 2012 Kraft Hockeyville preseason game, scheduled for Oct. 3 in Belleville, Ontario, has been postponed to 2013.
The cancellation of the schedule was necessary because of the absence of a Collective Bargaining Agreement between the NHL Players’ Association and the NHL.
While the Kraft Hockeyville game has been postponed, many of the scheduled celebrations in the winning community of Stirling-Rawdon, Ontario, will proceed as planned beginning on Sept. 30.”
This edition of Team look of the Week is all about the Chicago Blackhawks. This fall preppy chic is very fashionable; so that is the direction we took for this look. The chic vintage looking varsity Blackhawks cardigan really puts this look over the edge. Although the sweater is made for men it will provide you with the boyfriend cardigan look that has been in trend for a few seasons now. This look has many tiny accents that really let you support the Blackhawks without looking like you just got back from a Blackhawks tailgate party.
Just like always if you don’t have something here don’t sweat just use what you have, this look is just a guideline. If you love this look and aren’t a Blackhawks fan just swap out the Blackhawks stuff to fit your team colours and logo. Hope you enjoyed it.
The CWHL (Canadian Women’s Hockey League) is offering a cool ticket package for it’s fans. $60 gets you a season pass, with the opportunity to watch games in any city during the season. Not a bad price to support your fellow female hockey players! Teams are located in Alberta, Brampton, Montreal, Toronto and Boston takes the ice as the only American city in the league.
We’re starting a new posting series here at The Pink Puck. “Hockey laughs”, because everyone could use a laugh and it should certainly relate to hockey!
The lockout has brought nothing but depression for hockey fans. As the inevitable draws near, laughs are few and far between. Maybe this will help if only for a second.
Have a funny hockey picture to share, send it to pinkpuck@thepinkpuck.com; we’ll give you credit for your submission!
It’s almost here… well, maybe…not yet..soon, we hope. Well…
The hockey season might or might not come to TVs everywhere this winter, time will tell.
I did read online this past week that if the season does not start due to a strike, then a few angry fans will stop going to places that are owned by hockey people. I’m wondering if it would change anything, if the fans strike?
My thoughts today are not about strikes or hockey but on a place I visited a few days ago.
I went to check out the Richmond’s Oval Rink, the rink that in 2010, hosted the Olympic speed skating.
