We’re launching a new series just for fun here on the Pink Puck, NHL Celebrity Look-a-Likes. Each week we will feature a player from around the league and a celebrity that we think is almost a spitting image. Have a pairing in mind? Shoot us an email pinkpuck@thepinkpuck.com!
This week we bring you, New York Rangers’ Brian Boyle and actor Eddie Cahill. While Boyle is an offensive force at 6’7″, you might recognize his look-a-like Cahill from a different kind of on ice portrayal – as goaltender Jimmy Craig in Disney’s blockbuster flick Miracle.

Our Washington Capitals correspondent Christine Rousselle contributed the following article to townhall.com:
College hockey fans looking to discuss their favorite teams on the United States College Hockey Organization (USCHO) Fan Forum on Sunday night were greeted with a surprising redirect: a pro-President Assad message.
In what appears to be a random hacking by the Syrian Electronic Army (SEA), anyone who attempted to reach a page on the fan forum was instead brought to a page containing “A Message from Syria to the World.” The attack wassimilar to other work by the SEA in defacing websites to spread pro-Assad propaganda.
The attack was first noticed by Twitter users at around 11:30 p.m. on Sunday night. To read the rest of this article head here.

The Calgary Flames announced today the retirement of longtime goaltender Miikka Kiprusoff from the National Hockey League. Kiprusoff will retire with an all-time Flames high of 305 wins, 576 games played and 41 shutouts.
Beloved by many in Calgary, management teammates and fans will be sad to see the goalie go. Flames General Manager Jay Feaster had nothing but the best to say for a player that devoted so much of his career to Flames nation.
“Miikka Kiprusoff has been the backbone of the Calgary Flames since his arrival here in 2003, and every night for more than 70-nights per season, his magnificence between the pipes gave the team a chance to win. He inspired hope and confidence, and he made those around him better players as a result of his brilliance. Miikka will take his place in the pantheon of great NHL goaltenders, and his place in Flames’ history is secure. He will be missed by players, teammates and fans, and we wish him all the best in his retirement.”
“The Fastest Game on Earth’ is what hockey is called, today.
Did you know that hockey or a game like it, was played for thousands of years by the Vikings? It is written in the Icelandic Sagas. Who knew this game is so old?
The word ‘hockey’ was first used in the English form in 1363. The word ‘puck’ could be a Scottish Gaelic or a Irish word meaning ‘to poke’, ‘deliver a blow’ or to ‘punch’. Maybe that is how all the punching came to be?
A form of hockey was played in the Middle Ages till the Dutch Golden Age. Some might disagree with this as the game used a wooden bat instead of a stick. Even the Natives in Eastern Canada were playing a form of hockey hundreds of years ago. The modern form of hockey started in the 19th century. Now, there are teams from all over the world.
Players might look like they are floating and gliding from net to net, up and down the ice the teams race. If to you the players seem to skate fast? They are…..the players reach speeds from 20-30 m.p.h.
The game has two codes of play to follow. The one they use depends where and whom is playing. The first code book is the International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) and the second book is from the Canadian and North Americans’ National Hockey League. (NHL)
Selected by the league, they used to have four officials on the ice. That was two linesmen and two referees. Most now use the three-men system, one referee and two linesmen.
In 2011 there were 85,827 female hockey players in Canada and 65,609 in the U.S.A. In the United States Hockey League (USHL) the first female to enter was in 1969-1970. The male and female leagues are basically the same except for the female league being less physical.
Now that you all know a bit more history of hockey, go out and make some hockey noise! Push up them eye-glasses and impress your friends!!

The past few summers have been exceptionally hard on New Jersey after consecutively losing their two biggest stars. Last year it was Zach Parise, and this year was the move that blind-sided the entire hockey community—Ilya Kovalchuck’s retirement. Not to mention David Clarkson moving on to Toronto. But can the Devils rebound from losing their big names and rebuild a team with what they have left? New Jersey would like to think so.
On the bright side, the team resigned veteran and long-time Devil Patrik Elias to a three-year contract extension. They also resigned defenseman Dianius Zubrus and forward Adam Henrique, who was a big part of their 2012 playoff run. Those extensions offered a sigh of relief for Devils fans everywhere.
The Devils also made some not-so-subtle moves in the off-season, the most striking being Cory Schneider. During the draft they made a show-stopping announcement to trade a first round pick for the then-Vancouver goalie. This move drew a lot of attention, and was definitely the right move for the Devils. With Marty Brodeur in the last year of his contract at age 41, Cory Schneider is a good fit for the future.
In addition to Schneider, they added Jaromir Jagr. At 41 years old, this may very well be his last season, and he played for almost every other Atlantic Division team so I guess he figured, “why not give New Jersey a shot.” Jagr will certainly be Cup-hungry in his last season, so hopefully that will give the Devils the spark they have been in need of.
If the spark doesn’t come from Jagr, there is a good possibility it could come from ex-Ranger Ryane Clowe who they recently signed to a 5-year contract. Clowe is a power forward who isn’t afraid to throw a few big hits and punches every now and then. The Devils could really use someone who has the ability to score and provide physicality; hopefully this can be their man for the next 5 years.
2013 will have to be a year of stepping-up and learning to produce for those players that had recently been in the shadows of Kovalchuck, Parise, and Clarkson. Players like Michael Ryder, Rostislav Olesz, Mark Fayne, and Mattias Tedenby are sure to see a lot of face-time as the Devils try to sort out their ‘new’ team.
So, back to the original question. Will the Devils be able to rebound after losing their core players? It will be tough, but if they can fix a few of the issues they struggled with last season (refer back to Five Things the Devils Need to do for Next Season), this certainly doesn’t have to be a throw-away season.
Really? Pick up over Delivery? This is what they get.
We here at the Pink Puck aren’t ashamed to tell you that we love pumpkin the way we love hockey. If it was socially acceptable, we would eat it 365 days a year. These pumpkin spice muffins are a fantastic breakfast option. We recently baked them the night before, then warmed them the following morning, threw them in foil and surprised the team at the rink before hitting the ice – it was a well received treat. Surprise your family, share with friends or keep them all to yourself, we bring you, Pumpkin Spice Muffins.

NHL training camps are set to face off this week, hit the rink in comfort and style. We always see “I’m with the Band” t-shirts, well let’s face it, we’re hockey girls and we aren’t with the band, we’re with the team.
We picked a versatile comfortable look, layering is key during training camp, the season is just beginning to change and we’re often heading from warm summer temperatures outside, to the cold ice inside. Jeans and a tank top are key components in battling the sun, while a cardigan, lightweight jacket and scarf combat the chill inside as you scope out the talent for a new season.
As always, edit the color scheme to fit your personality or team, but we picked neutrals that will work across the league. Love our “I’m with the Team” tank? Head on over to our Pink Puck store for some other t-shirts that might light your fashion lamp.
