Weber to add Defensive Depth in Philly?
14 years, $100 million… that’s the offer sheet Philadelphia put on the table in an attempt to beef up a lacking defensive roster. The Flyers made the offer to current Predator Shea Weber, one of the top defensemen in the league. Nashville has the opportunity to match the offer, but if they pass, Weber will be suiting up for the Flyers come October. With impressive statistics this past season, Weber was ranked one of the top three defensemen in the league; gaining him a Norris Trophy nomination at this years NHL Awards. Weber lost out to Senators Erik Karlsson in one of the largest upsets of the evening. Karlsson inked a hefty deal back on June 19th which extended his residency with Ottawa.
During media day at the awards, Weber seemed unsure about his future with the Predators. With the departure of Ryan Suter earlier this month in a huge deal with Minnesota, the Flyers offer and Weber’s acceptance didn’t come as much of a surprise. While the deal is signed and sealed, it’s yet to be delivered.
Video from Weber during media day at the NHL Awards, he briefly touches base on Suter and his own contract negotiations.
