The Boston Bruins (or a majority of them) took to Royale in Boston today for the 5th annual, Cuts for a Cause. Accompanied by flocks of fans, Bruins players took to the stage to have their heads shaved for charity.  Most fans watched from the floor, but a few winning bidders from an online auction, took the stage to shave the heads of their favorites.

The Cuts for Cause captain Shawn Thornton was among the first to go under the buzzer along with 98.5 the Sports Hubs Toucher and Rich. The event not only raised money for the Boston Bruins Foundation, but also benefits the Floating Hospital for Children at Tufts Medical Center. The event marks the near ending of the regular season and gives the players a chance to participate in a unique event for a good cause.

Defenseman Adam McQuaid yet again received the mullet treatment, as some people thought it was a good luck charm before last season’s playoffs. McQuaid didn’t seem to mind his new hairdo, although unlike last season he didn’t guarantee the mullets long term presence in the locker room.

Newcomer Torey Krug just arrived in Boston after being signed earlier this week, but that didn’t stop him from agreeing to participate in today’s event. It probably wasn’t the kind of initiation that he may have been expecting, but it’s certainly a great opportunity to get to know the fans of his new team.

The Boston Bruins and the Bruins Foundation aren’t strangers to having unique fan friendly events to benefit and support the city that they play in. It’s not only the fans, but the players themselves that look forward to taking part and giving back throughout the season.

Per the Boston Bruins website, the players that participated in this year’s Cuts for a Cause:

With a game against Washington tomorrow night, the team will hit the ice ready to head into the playoffs in a few short games. Face off is at 7 pm, although the team will be sure to arrive early to the rink for a few helmet alterations. Most of Boston is probably hoping that the cuts will lead to a cause for another Cup celebration.
