Hockey Term(s) of the Week
The terms of the week for this week are Poke Check, Scrap and Hooking.
Poke Check: A poke check is a defensive play. It is when a player uses his stick to poke the puck away from his opponent or off of his opponent’s stick. This is a play commonly made by goaltenders and defensemen.
Scrap: A scrap is quite simply a fight. Like all fighting in the NHL a scrap is punishable by a 5 minute major penalty.
Hooking: Hooking is when a player uses his stick often the blade to pull on an opposing player’s body or stick. Hooking allows a player to restrain his opponent. A hook is an illegal move it hockey punishable by a minor or major penalty.
