The Worcester Sharks have always been host to creative events throughout the past seasons. It should come as no surprise, that this season is no different. With creativity in full swing, the Worcester Sharks invited New England Patriots player Rob Gronkowski to spike a ceremonial puck before face-off.

Insert hockey stop here. A little back story, back in November Gronkowski was fined by the National Football League a total of $7,500 for performing an unsportsmanlike spike following his second touchdown grab in a 37-16 win over the Jets. The Sharks offered to pay the $7,500 fine, if Gronkowski agreed to put his spiking abilities to the test by spiking the puck. Gronkowski agreed.  While Gronkowski spent the season dominating the football field; it’s a guess that he hasn’t frequented the rink. Tonight, that all changes as he spikes the puck at the DCU Center.

It should be interesting to see his “Gronk Spike” tactics, when the puck he’s spiking differs drastically from the ball he’s used to. Pucks don’t have the same bounce that a football does. If anyone can get the puck to spike; Gronk can.
